Would You Use Software for Copywriting?
Jan 09, 2007
I keep an open mind when it comes to applying technology to minimize time spent on repetitive or intricate tasks. I just read Brian’s review of a copywriting software called Glyphius that helps you prepare a killer copy by evaluating your version with the help of “a built-in database of over a hundred thousand profitable and unprofitable ads”. Short of giving the living and the dead geniuses of the world a run for their money, I think software can achieve any thing.
From the creativity side, I wouldn’t recommend such a software and in fact if someone tells me to use a similar “story-writing” software I’d consider it as an insult. But copywriting, as Brian rightly puts, has less to do with creativity and more to do with getting across the right message and creating the desired impact and for that the safest bet is to stick with the tried and test formulas. Clients pay you for results, not for your creativity, when it comes to copywriting.
As they say, “Don’t make them think,” in the web designing circles, people get used to certain expressions and verbal patterns and something different, knowingly or unknowingly, unnerves them and they don’t behave in the desired manner. When making purchasing decision, people prefer to stick to things that are familiar to them. If you plan to purchase a copywriting software, go to Brian’s affiliate page and purchase it.

Hi Brian. I just wrote about it because I liked the idea and agree with your views on copywriting

I don’t think any software can do a job as good as the human brain. It might help to generate some ideas though.

You are right Kian — in the end it’s the human mind that comes to your rescue, but I believe software can help too. Think about the Google search engine. It’s too a software that finds pages for us according to the expressions we search for. It uses certain intelligence to rank pages. I think so does this copywriting software.

Hi all,
Just a short personal story. I work as a copywriter for an italian web agency. I bought Glyphius one month ago, and I’m still wondering what’s the real process under its scoring results…and I’m feeling sincerely a little bit dumb using it…BUT
The truth is that Glyphius scoring helps you thinking about your copy. You start wondering why “A” should be better than “Your”…and 90% you end up staring a at your key-phrase from a completely different perspective.
My opinion? Glyphius really works…not in evaluating copy (it can’t understand context, so it’s simply impossible)…but in questioning the copywriting rules you apply like a no-brainer when you have a little of job experience.
