Top blog trends

Nov 23, 2006

I started with my own HTML/ASP skills when I blogged the first time for amrithallan.com. Then I used Blogger.com (I used the interface for my own hosted website). From there I moved to MovableType. I had begun to get disenchanted with it — due to its bulky nature — by the time it went commercial. For more than two years now I’ve been using WordPress. The biggest advantage of using WordPress is that it’s written in PHP and hence I can easily do the modifications I want. It’s very easy to create a basic WordPress template even if you have a fundamental web designing knowledge.

Modern Life is Rubbish has outlined the top blogging trends in a post titled Leading Average: Top Blog Trends where he presents the following numbers when it comes to people using various blogging tools:

  • Custom blogging software: 45%
  • MovableType: 15%
  • WordPress: 12%
  • Others: 11%
  • TypePad: 7%
  • Blogger: 6%
  • MySpace: 4%
