Tips for Creating Quality Blog Content

Jan 02, 2007

I was busy yesterday creating this new template. I hope you like it. I’ve removed archives from the side bar and shifted a few links to the top bar. Anyway…

Good, quality content is the backbone of your blog. This is what gets readers to your blog. This is what gets them to respond, and this is what that keeps them coming back for more. Regularly coming up with worth-reading content is easier said than done. How do you keep coming up with great posts? You keep writing, silly. I know, sometimes you write garbage, and we all do. Even famous authors and commentators don’t churn out gems after gems. If they write about 50 things, only 10-20 are worth reading. The key is, keep writing. The more you write, the more great ideas you’ll get. It’s like, the more you walk in the rain, the greater is the chance of catching cold. OK, wrong analogy.

The Internet Gadget Inspector (I know, quite an official-sounding name for a blog) has published a post titled How To Create Blog Content. Nothing revolutionary, but it’s effective to keep visiting the good old points to keep oneself on track. Here are the main points of the post:

  • Write with the reader in mind.
  • Make it valuable and worthwhile.
  • Proof-read.
  • Keep it short and simple.
  • Keep it lively.
  • Link often.
  • Use keywords often.
  • Write clearly.
  • Write like you talk.
  • Use a clear headline.
