The 5 deadly sins of blogging
Nov 20, 2006
Neil has listed the the 5 deadly sins of blogging. Broadly, these 5 deadly sins according to him are:
- Using the default template that comes with WordPress as many splogs use it and every second person uses it. Have a simple, but unique template for your blog.
- Don’t go overboard with color and fonts. Make sure your blog is easily readable. I must add here that don’t assume your readers are going to have the same fonts you have.
- Talk to your readers and don’t just blow your own horn. Interact with your readers as much as you can.
- Go easy with blog widgets like all those Ajax tricks and chatting windows. Keep your blog simple. Avoid using heavy graphics and fancy JavaScripts.
- Don’t go crazy with ads. It’s OK to publish a few ads here and there, but don’t put so many ads that reading your actual blog content becomes like finding needle in the haystack.
Along with avoiding these sins, if you provide great content persistently, you can create and run a popular blog. It takes time, but perseverance pays in the end.
