Seductive copywriting
Nov 29, 2006
According to this analysis of a recently published article titled The Neurology of Aesthetics Kathy quotes:
An unclothed person who has only arms or part of a shoulder jutting out from behind a shower curtain or who is behind a diaphanous veil is much more alluring than a completely uncovered nude. Just as the thinking parts of our brain enjoy intellectual problem solving, the visual system seems to enjoy discovering a hidden object.
People have practiced the art of seduction since the time immemorial and I don’t think theoretically it is something new — even animals, birds and insects practice this art. If you apply the art of seduction on copywriting you would call it, roughly, tantalization. It works with some products, it doesn’t work with some, but you can apply this if you are indulging in a long-term business marketing strategy. I mean, don’t reveal everything at the outset, and this keeps the reader glue. It’s like, almost dropping your clothes and not dropping them, I know the analogy is not appropriate.
Copywriting is all about getting your readers hooked to what you have written. You are a good copywriter if people not only find your copy engaging, but they are also driven by it to do something, even if that “something” is tantamount to reading the next line. If you say everything in the first line, the story is over and they don’t need to read any further.
Curiosity always incites attention. We love things that make us use our brain. We love anticipation and it is up to you as a competent copywriter to keep the sense of anticipation burning. Keep the interest alive and you have got yourself keen readers. Even if they don’t buy immediately, sooner or later, they will.
