People are your best bet

Maki at Doshdosh explains this with the examples of Truemors and Pownce, two startups that shot to fame within the first day of their launches and only because they were launched by Guy Kawasaki and Kevin Rose, the founder of Digg. It is the power of blogging at its best. Although Guy had already made a mark in his field, his real online fame surfaced when he actively started blogging.
In this post I’m not talking about the pros and cons of both the startups because I haven’t explored them much (I’m always a late starter at these things), but this shows how it pays to invest in people. Blogging is all about touching people (not in the kinky sense, silly!). When you blog, you open the communication channels. The more you blog, the more you make yourself approachable. As the Doshdosh post says, Guy’s Truemors received 2,61,214 page views on the very first day. This was not the power of the product, but the power of something that Guy is doing. He has made his brand so popular and strong by regularly interacting with people, that they simply wanted to see what he is up to.
So do people like you simply because you blog daily and make witty replies to their comments? No. People like you when you give them something, when you provide them valuable content, consistently, and this what Brian of Copyblogger discusses in his latest post; that you prosper if you provide quality content, consistently. I’m repeating the word consistently because consistency keeps bringing people back to you for more.
Create a community at your blog and you don’t need to worry about the search engines. The search engines can be unpredictable sometimes, but there is one thing that is not going to go anywhere unless a major catastrophe happens: your goodwill through your regular interactions.
