Long-term Traffic Strategy
Jan 03, 2007
It’s not safe to only depend on Google for your traffic, and also for the monetization of your website. Although Google can be a great source of quality traffic to your blog or website, you have to really manipulate your content (no, not necessarily, but often) in order to get traffic from there. The same goes for monetization, for instance, AdSense. AdSense can be a great revenue source, but don’t make it your only revenue source. You never know when they decide not to pay you, or blacklist your blog or website.
The best, and the safest bet is:
- Target multiple search engines.
- Create link-worthy content so that lots of blogs and websites link to you on their own.
- Keep an open mind towards the other advertisers and link-buyers.
Remember that in order to get decent traffic you really have to work hard, and if after all you have decided to put in so much effort (that’s a different thing if you’ve got plenty of time to spare and you’re generating content just to share it with others), you should better not put all your eggs in the same basket.
Another thing that can work for newbie or lesser-known bloggers like me is get in touch with other newbie and lesser-known bloggers and create a self-sustaining network. I think this month I’ll start working on that. If you want to get in touch regarding this, you are welcome to leave comments here.
