Logos and Advertisements in Captcha
Dec 02, 2006
I’ve been dabbling with the idea of installing captcha on this blog as well as my copywriting website because I get lots of comment spam, especially from my copywriting website. Programming and technical issues, together with a lack of enough time, has prevented me from installing it.
Seth Godin has come up with this idea to commercialize captcha. It means anybody can install captcha without resorting to extra coding through a centralized installation. But the central installation doesn’t have to be free. So how can the people running the cpatcha installation earn revenue? Logos, says Godin. It’s like, when you run a cpatcha form verification module, instead of seeing the random number embedded into a dynamically generated image, you see the logo or the name of the company that you have to type in to verify yourself as a human. Since the names and logos will be dynamically generated there will be less chance of automated comment posters figuring them out. Well, it can be used on free websites or personal blogs, I don’t see it catching up on commercial websites and professional blogs.
But then the same can be said about publishing the AdSense and other advertisements too.
