I like it when errors are pointed out
Jan 09, 2006
Today someone wrote to me that on my rates page for writing content I had misspelled “reference” as “referenc” (I had omitted the last ‘e’). I remember a few months ago another spelling error was pointed out by a visitor.
I’m lucky that these visitors didn’t say, “We wanted to hire you but the typos on your pages stopped us from doing so.”
Spelling is a forte that has always had weak walls for me. I again and again have to run the spell checks to make sure that I don’t write the words wrongly. Still, especially when I’m writing stuff for my own website, sometimes I don’t check words individually – which I should because my website generates business for me and any big or small folly can cost me lots of money – but when it comes to sending the documents to me clients I thoroughly go through the content.
I’m thankful to the people who take the trouble to send me a message pointing out the typos. Sometimes they do it quite rudely, especially when the message is originating from some blog, nonetheless I appreciate the gesture because it only helps me make my website better.
