Does Reciprocal Linking Really Matter?

Sep 10, 2007

A few hours ago I was writing a blog post for a client on the benefits of reciprocal linking. When I was researching on the topic I found many articles and blog posts listing its benefits and things you should take care of while exchanging links with other webmasters and bloggers. I myself get link exchange requests now and then for my content writing website. I have a page dedicated to reciprocal linking but I haven’t updated it for a long time.

What’s your experience with reciprocal linking? Does it enhance your search engine rankings?

reciprocal links not only help build traffic but my rankings are rock solid for our keywords. I think the trick is to link to only quality relevant sites in a natural volume and dont link to junk or crappy looking sites. I use linksmanager to manage my link exchanges and I dont see any problem with that since it allows me full control over who I link to.

    Hi Michael.

I think the key is: reciprocal linking that really holds meaning and isn’t done just for SEO purpose.

Rumor has it that Google has gotten much smarter at filtering out “bogus” (non-contextually relevant) reciprocal linking, and that reciprocal linking for it’s own sake is a dead end.

    Focused linking though, right on.
