That’s Why The Traditional Media Loves To Hate The Blogsphere
Dec 05, 2006 No Comments »
Neil Patel has posted on his blog how the reporter at C|Net had misquoted him in an article titled The Digg Rig. The same story got rebukes from SEOmoz as well as some other bloggers. This is something the traditional media hates, and discretely, fear — this ability to communicate quickly to a very large audience. You no longer need a TV channel or a newspaper to put your message across. All you need is a blog that is read by a few discerning people.
When the Indian government had blocked the blogsphere this summer the traditional media initially showed a knee-jerk reaction, but then was caught off-guard when the Indian blogsphere exploded with anger at both the government and the mainstream media. In a couple of days the issue was being debated on prime time.

The Fundamentals of SEO
Dec 05, 2006 No Comments »
Here are the fundamentals of your SEO campaign:
- Generate lots of quality content
- Use your keywords and key phrases between header tags
- Put the main header of the page between <h1></h1> and then use the other header tags for other headings
- Put your keywords and key phrases in your anchor text: whatever comes between <a> and </a>
- Get lots of inbounds links, preferably from websites that themselves have lots of inbound links
- Interact a lot and leave relevant comments (comments that add value) on other blogs and forums
- Keep your web pages well-validated
- Trackback to blog posts that have heavy traffic (well-meaning trackback, not spammy trackback)
- Generate lots of quality content (yes, I know I have said it earlier — just felt like repeating it)

Get Backlinks from Pages that have Backlinks
Dec 04, 2006 No Comments »
I don’t want to turn my blog into an SEO-too blog for the simple reason that right now my SEO-knowledge is not much. But I’m continuously studying new things these days and I think content writing, website copywriting and search engine marketing go hand in hand especially if you are working on your own. For instance, I’m constantly worrying about getting amrithallan.com proper exposure to get relevant business queries and that’s why search engine optimization and Internet marketing — at least these days — is an integral part my routine. And since I’m learning new things, I might as well share them with you through my blog.
Take for instance this post titled Get backlinks from pages that have backlinks that says backlinks are more relevant if you get them from pages that have relevant backlinks — lots of them. Since I’m not a professional search engine marketer and I don’t plan to spend money buying backlinks, at the outset this topic seems uninteresting. But I think as a knowledge-gathering exercise (or if you are a professional Internet marketer and SEO consultant) you must know what tools are available to gauge the backlinks quality of your chosen pages, websites, and even blogs. This post discusses one of those tools.
