Checklists Help You As a Freelance Copywriter and Content Writer
Dec 21, 2006 No Comments »

When you work on big projects there is a high chance of missing out the finer details. I once lost a project because I didn’t follow the content guidelines sent to me by the client — I deserved to lose the project. And that wasn’t even a big project.
Snook.ca has a nice post on the significance of maintaining project checklists. Although Jonathan writes here from the perspective of a web designer/developer, maintaining a project checklist helps in any kind of freelance work you do. It helps you keep focused and it also helps you track your progress. I use Tadalist for this. Let me know what application you use to maintain your project checklists.

Use Online Applications With Cautious
Dec 14, 2006 No Comments »
There’s bee an onslaught of freely available online applications — from emails to word processors to social bookmarking tools to collaboration software to scheduling software to online disk spaces to online video, audio and image sharing — you name it and they have it. But what’s the guarantee they are always going to be available? asks Chris Gilmer of Web Worker Daily. I got his link from a post at Gigaom. I agree with Chris; you can use online applications and online disk space for casual work but for serious work rely on your own resources. You never know when these Web 2.0 companies are going to be bought by the bigger players and then dismantled. Google totally spoiled Writely.

FireFox 3 Alpha released
Dec 14, 2006 No Comments »

And I’m testing with slight trepidation. You can get it from the Mozilla website. When I had installed FireFox2 it crashed so many times that I gave up and went back to using FireFox 1.5. The situation had grown so bad that for a few days I had to endure the Internet Explorer.
This new release, I wonder why, is called Gran Paradiso (reminds me of the movie Cinema Paradiso). They have also changed the icon - the first one was better. You can read a detailed review of FireFox 3 at the Ajaxian blog. I don’t if I’m hallucinating, but my browsing seems to be a bit fast now.

PageFlakes - a New Online Organize
Dec 04, 2006 No Comments »

So far I’ve extensively used TadaList to organize my tasks and track my projects’ progress. For sometime I used Backpack – it is good but I preferred TadaList and reverted back to it in a couple of days. I’ve also used Protopage as an online organizer but it was not that good. Today I found another decent online organizer called PageFlakes. Actually they are widget-producing company but they like to call their widgets “flakes”, as I read somewhere. It lets you manage your contact, to-do lists, bookmarks and other stuff. It also shows you weather and international timings if you prefer to maintain multiple time zones. A nice thing to try.
