Windows Live Writer Beta 2
Jun 14, 2007 No Comments »
Update [June 17, 2007]: Today while working on a post Windows Live Writer started crashing. It crashes on that particular post. I don’t know what happened. I completed it, and then closed the Writer without posting to the blog. When I tried opening the post to publish it, the Writer started crashing. It only crashes on that post and I don’t know if there is some problem with the source code. I cannot even check it because I cannot open it. I’ll keep using it though because there is nothing better but I’ll keep saving the source code in a separate text file from now onwards.
You can now download Windows Live Writer Beta 2 now. I’ve been using Windows Live Writer for months now and it is a great offline blog editing/posting tool. The only thing I haven’t been able to figure out till now is, how to add trackback URLs to my posts.

Akismet Not Working
Mar 26, 2007 1 Comment »
Of late I’ve been getting lots of spam. I guess my Akismet plugin is not working. When I noticed an increase in the spam rate I updated Akismet with a latest copy but I’m still getting lots of spam. Is there some better option available?
Long hiatus

What to write after such a long time? Not writing my blog posts for such a long time was certainly heart-breaking, especially when I had worked hard in December and almost hard in January. Actually, I worked harder during the previous month but most of the time I was turning in assignments. Consequently, I made some good money (I had been in a crunch for the past 8-9 months) but ended up not writing for my blog.
I know this is not good for the health of my blog, but I needed to make some tough decisions. I think my approach to my blog is quite unorganized. Either there is a flurry of posts for a couple of months, or there are no posts for a couple of months. No wonder I don’t have permanent readers, and I do exactly what I advise other not to do: be haphazard in my posts. The best approach would be, don’t get carried away, keep it to one post per day, and do it regularly. OK, now I’ll tell you what has kept me away from blogging this past month.
Lots of work: It’s hard to blog, especially in my condition, when you know you could be spending that time making some money. Fortunately I’ve been getting 4-5 queries every week and this trend has fetched me good work. Along with that I regularly need to work on a PHP application I’m creating for an old client.
Some time with family: Working from home gives everybody an impression that I’m always with my family. This is not so because I was working even during weekends. There was no “holiday” and I had begun to get on my wife’s nerves because she was always, consciously or unconsciously, worrying about not to disturb me. Although I’m always there when she needs me, the problem was, I was there only when she needed me.
Literary reading: Running a successful blog is after all not the primary goal of my life. It’s true I earn a living writing online content, my true aim in life is to become an author, a writer, a fiction writer. But my literary reading has been almost nil for the past few years. I’ve started reading again. I created a small dark corner for myself with a lamp facing the wall so that I could read in that dim, inward atmosphere.
So all this has been keeping me away from blogging. But they are not to be blamed. I was overdoing. From now onwards I’ll stick to one, or two posts a day, and post regularly. Thanks for reading this.

I Have Started Using the Flock Browser Now
Feb 02, 2007 4 Comments »
Since most of my work involves using a browser along with my word processor, I had begun to think there was some problem with my laptop. FireFox would constantly either hang or load websites and blogs very slowly.
Then I tried Opera and realized everything worked fine and the problem was with FireFox. I loved Opera for two days but sadly I’ve got tons of bookmarks in FireFox and I couldn’t import them to Opera. I had read about the Flock browser but never used it so I thought I should give it a try. It’s a neat browser. I could import all the bookmarks, but there is no Googlebar here. Doesn’t matter much though. It’s much faster than other browsers. It loads fast and it loads the web pages faster. It has an inbuilt blog editor but that needs lots improvement before you can seriously consider using it. Give it a try if you’re having troubles with FireFox.

Love what you do…you’ll never get tired, you’ll never get bored, and the difficulties you face will be the welcoming challenges the game offers you.
Hmm. I’m talking to myself actually.
