Target less competitive long tail keywords and get more traffic

Jun 14, 2007 4 Comments »

Apart from targeting your niche keywords that might be highly competitive, you should also optimize your web page content and blog posts for less competitive keywords, especially if you have just started your search engine optimization drive. Your niche keywords are important and you should always continue optimizing your content for them, but along with that, it doesn’t harm if you also target partially related, or very specific keywords. For instance, if your business is “rental cars” you shouldn’t only focus on the phrase “rental cars”; you can also target “ac rental cars” or “finding rental cars in new delhi” (if you operate in New Delhi) or even “how much does it cost to rent a car in new delhi”. These are also called long tail keywords, as they get you lots of traffic, but in smaller quantities.

Focusing on long tail keywords will help you  at three fronts:

  • Your website will start getting relevant traffic sooner for long tail keywords
  • You’ll have to pay less if you opt for pay-per-click search engine advertising for long tail
  • Conversion rate will be higher

Blogging Networks

Mar 20, 2007 No Comments »

Does creating a blogging network get you more (and of course, relevant) traffic? Darren at Blog Republic talks about blogging networks in a post titled Blogs As Social Networks. Whereas he mostly talks about building communities and making the blogs socially interactive, when I think of creating blogging social networks, I think more of creating “blog groups” like b5media or 9rules where blogs with similar themes come together and directly or indirectly promote each other’s blogs.

Creating blogging networks may or may not get you quality traffic — it depends on the quality of what you publish on your blog and how regularly. But in a generic sense, you can get relevant traffic because people browsing through the blog displaying your link are already interested in the specific subject. If a blog is written around a theme, there is a greater chance that readers would like to read what other linked bloggers are saying about that theme. For instance, when I’m reading a literary blog, and if that blog publishes links to other literary blogs, then I often click on those links. For that matter, if you are looking for lots of content on a specific topic, for instance, say SEO, it’s time-saving to visit blogs that belong to a group/network of SEO bloggers.

The Ultimate Guide to Linkbaiting

Feb 06, 2007 2 Comments »

And Andy Hogan has compiled it on his Tropical SEO blog. In a post titled Linkbaiting explained I had talked about what it means, and one of the proceeding posts I had written I don’t pay much heed to the linkbaiting din. I think I should. It’s high time I started doing some work on this side of blog marketing.

Andy says:

Of course, it’s (linkbaiting) also the most cost- and time-efficient way of building relevant, trusted, editorially-given backlinks; it’s the critical success factor in getting ranked in Google for competitive keywords; and, it’s making smart SEOs a veritable boatload of money.

It’s true. When I was promoting my web designing business I used to promote my link by submitting free articles to various websites, although my targeting was wrong. I got tons of traffic, but not the kind of traffic I needed to run the business.

Incidentally you must have noticed a slowing of posts on my blog. That’s because (not at the moment, due to gross time-mismanagement) I too am thinking about focusing more on link-worthy quality and less on the quantity. Once I’m able to sort out my time-table I’ll try to strike a balance between quality and quantity.

Why Advertise SEO Services Through AdWords?

Jan 05, 2007 No Comments »

SEO-AdWords

I was just doing some research for a client and noticed there are many “seo companies” that promise to get your links in the top ten search results but they themselves advertise on AdWords while nowhere appearing in the top 10 search results. In fact some don’t even appear on the fourth page. Just wondering…would you hire such a company for your SEO campaign?

Social Media Optimization vs. Social Media Marketing

Jan 03, 2007 No Comments »

OK, the online world is becoming complex every passing month, week, day, and even hour. Getting decent exposure for your website or blog doesn’t just mean you search engine optimize your website and be happy when the traffic begins to pour in from the search engines. In fact, not basing your online campaign merely on search engines was the theme of my recent post where I wrote that you should focus on getting traffic from other websites and blogs too.
