Automattic and Six Apart Compared
Jul 13, 2007 No Comments »
At Read/Write Web. Automattic is a company that developed and now promotes the popular blogging software WordPress. Six Apart developed MovableType. I used MovableType a few years ago but then started using WordPress because I found it a better, lighter alternative.

A New Blogging Platform
Jan 12, 2007 No Comments »
It’s high time we got a new blogging platform and Terapad seems quite impressive. It comes pre-loaded with many features and customizations and it has two options: free (add-supported) and paid ($5 per month, no ads). The storage is 2 GB and the bandwidth is a whopping 10 GB per month. Well, at least for me 10 GB is “whopping” :-). The only negative thing that I could find is the lack of search engine friendly post URLs. I visited a link and it was an assortment of question marks, ampersands and equal-tos.

Bloglines vs. Google Reader
Jan 06, 2007 1 Comment »

I’ve been using Bloglines as my RSS feeds reader for around a month now and I really like it. Recently I read on various blogs that the Google Reader is far better so I decided to use it today. Didn’t find it very impressive and I don’t why it is so hyped. Stats? I’m not worried about stats, my main concern is usability and I think I find Bloglines far better. I mean, why do I need stats to know what I read and what I don’t; I can make that out without fancy graphs and number crunchers.
Right now I have…let me check…135 feeds and I know what feeds I’m not reading frequently or am not even clicking them even once a week. Anyway, this is not the point. It actually depends on your preference, and I just wanted to say that Bloglines is better than the Google Reader. Apart from that, my browser has a button that lets me add a feed to Bloglines straightaway. I’m back to Bloglines.

5 essential OSX blogging tools
Nov 27, 2006 No Comments »
I have never in my life used a Macintosh computer; never even seen it. But I know a lot of people who use them; even some of my clients use them. Problogger recently published a blog post on 5 Essential OSX Blogging Tools (I got this link from Lorelle’s blog). Oh yes, I can see Ecto in this list; many Mac users I’ve read use it for publishing blogs and until a few months ago it was not available on the Windows platform (I think I read about Ecto at Gigaom for the first time). Yesterday I downloaded it and tried using it. Wasn’t much impressed. Actually I’m using Windows Live Writer these days but it’s got some issues with trackbacks (well, even my WordPress installation has some issues with trackbacks) and excerpts (there is no place to insert excerpts). So I thought of trying some other software. Right now I’m writing my posts using Live Writer and then using the WordPress control to publish them.

The Cisco blog review
Oct 28, 2006 1 Comment »
This post has been long due. In fact I shouldn’t say “This”, I should say “A” because I haven’t been writing much here. Ever since my illness there’s been a lull over here because almost for a month I didn’t work, and fortunately, almost all of my clients waited for me to get better. So I thought, well, at this moment when I need to slog on the backlog and earn money to fill the hole created by my medical bills, blogging can wait for a few days. I have sorted most of the things now, and I think this weekend is a better time to re-enter the realm of regular bloggers.
A few weeks ago Easton on his blog announced the Fortune 500 Blog Project where he invited different bloggers to write reviews on various blogs being run by the Fortune 500 countries. There is a WiKi on the Fortune 500 Blog Project where you can follow the progress and participate in this group effort. You can select (among the remaining) a Fortun 500 corporate blog and write a review of the blog on your own blog and then put the link to the review on the list of the group’s WiKi. I have chosen Cisco’s blog for today’s review.
