Can you earn money working as a blogger?
Aug 23, 2006
Of course you can! I get at least 2-3 queries (well, I never said I get tons of traffic you see) asking me how one can establish a writing/copywriting career on the Internet. For a while now I’ve been contemplating writing a post on How to become a successful online copywriter but lack of time always pushes me back. Now that I’ve started blogging “actively” again on this blog, I’ll soon do a post on the subject.
Since last August I’ve been writing blog posts for blogs that pay me (per post). I cannot reveal them here because the blog owners use their names on the blog. So you can say I’ve been ghost writing blogs :-). May be one day when I’m famous people will use my name on their blogs just to show off.
I think it (the link mentioned above) is a nice step towards establishing a place where bloggers and prospective employers can come together and evaluate who can provide what.
Would I use such a service? Sure! I’ve used RentACoder.com. I never got a project from there because I was too embarrassed to bid that low. The same problem I faced with Elance. People come there with a preset mindset that they can get their jobs done by paying pittance. Dragging heals for $25 projects never somehow caught on with me; I’d rather do the work for free.
It’ll be nice if people at Darren’s job board can maintain a standard and don’t make it into another project bidding website at start offering blog writing jobs at miserably low prices and consequently spoiling the market for genuinely professional bloggers.

Good points and great new blog layout, Amrit. Thanks for adding more proof to the growing pile - yes, indeed, there is money to be made from blogging!

Thank you Easton. The more I read and observe, the more convinced I get that yes, you can make money, and some people are making a good living just blogging. One just needs to persevere (in a good direction, that is) and stay there for a sufficient time. For this it is extremely necessary that you have an alternative income-source till your blog begins to pay. Blogging — as far as I’m concerned — just takes 2-3 hours everyday and I intend to keep it that way.
Regarding the layout, yes, I guess I’ve finally figured out how to create a cross-browser layout for WordPress. If I try harder I can even make customized blog templates and charge for them :-).
