About Me

Hi. I’m Amrit Hallan. I’m a website content writer and a copywriter by profession and a writer by passion. I also program in PHP whenever someone is brave enough to give me programming work. amrithallan.com is my business website. I develop content for my clients, read blogs and maintain my own blog most of the time these days. I’m a “voracious reader” — I can read a book full fifteen minutes at a stretch!
Fortunately, sometimes those minutes stretch into hours too. Whenever I get chance I love to read, especially the classics, as they carry the old-world-charm rudely lacking in today’s literature. A few of my dead and alive favorite authors are Dostoyevski, Charles Dickens, Thomas Hardy, Prem Chand (a Hindi writer), Salman Rushdie, Umberto Eco, Milan Kundera and Garcia. Although I’m a romantic, poetry somehow eludes me. It’s easier for me to write poetry than read it.
Umm…what else…OK, I live in NOIDA (New Okhla Industrial Development Area) bordering New Delhi (capital of India). All the industries are gone from here accept for a few IT offices. I’m originally from New Delhi but after my daughter’s birth in July 2005 we decided to move to a smaller city for some space and comparatively cleaner air. I miss New Delhi though.
I’ve been “dabbling” with the Internet since 1999. For the first two years I designed and developed websites because one, I had a 4-year programming background and two, I had nothing better to do. I chose to write for websites after that (when I found every kid with a running nose was making websites using FrontPage). This profession was close to my heart as I’d been a semi-professional writer all my life. I used to write technical articles for a few computer magazines and our local newspapers when I was programming. I also prepared course materials for various computer institutes. Students loved what I wrote. May be it was because of this that I got a 6-month gig to write web development articles (on HTML, JavaScript and ASP) for an MBA-course website. Well, that was a turning point, and ever since that I’ve been writing for websites.
I should have been more sincere with blogging. I started blogging back in 2002 when I was not aware of any blogging software but was aware of the concept. In 2003 I started using Blogger and even made blogging templates for a few clients. In 2004 I started Writing Cave but was never consistent with it, and hence, it never got the attention it could have got. The same is with this blog (previously I was running it under website-content-writer.com). Then in November 2006 I decided I should really put my energies into blogging because this is something I really like doing. For blogging I have two strengths and one weakness: I’m comfortable with technology, I love to write, but by nature I’m a bit reticent person. I dread approaching people unless they have already approached me, and in blogging you have to approach people multiple times if you really intend to succeed, because after all it is a social medium.
Well, it has turned out to be longer than I had thought. I would have written more but now I have to get back to work. I’ll keep updating this page as and when I can.
