About half of online Asia is blogging
Nov 29, 2006
OK, almost every website worth its salt has been publishing it for days. According to a study by Microsoft’s MSN and Windows Live Online Services Businesses, about 50% of Asians who surf the Internet are blogging and 40% of these bloggers spend more than 3 hours every week blogging. Well, that’s an impressive figure and speaks volumes about the growing blogging trend in Asia. I’ve been getting multiple news feeds regarding this study but I’m eventually linking to this one. The survey was conducted upon 25,000 portal visitors across India, Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia and Thailand.
The report rightly says that corporate and business blogging is still at a nascent stage. Blogging is specially popular in India and Korea, and in fact I’ve personally experienced how blogging has contributed to various social and political causes recently. Blogging has become such a powerful information dissemination tool that a few months ago the India government banned a few blogs fearing social unrest. Of course bloggers protested at full-throttle and the government had to withdraw its draconian censorship.
