Two types of linkbaiting
Nov 30, 2006 1 Comment »
A few days ago I had explained on this blog what is linkbaiting. Linkbaiting in “whitehat” SEO terminology means producing quality content other people would like to, love to, link to (like to, love to, link to — sounds like rap). It is a legitimate, and extremely satisfying way of increasing your website search engine ranking and in fact, if people link to your content voluntary there is nothing like it.
Rand on his SEOmoz blog explains two forms of linkbaiting campaigns, viz.:
- Link-Worthy, Linkerati-Targeted Content
- Attracting Link Attention with Controversy
The first one, as just mentioned is the right way of generating inbound links because there you don’t create content just for the purpose of encouraging linkbaiting. You do it because you want to share you knowledge and experience. Along with that if people want to link to you, well and good.
The second style is just to get inbound links. This works sometimes, but it is not a long-term solution.

Feed publishing best practices
Nov 30, 2006 No Comments »
Every blog these days uses RSS feeds people can subscribe to. These days I’m extensively using RSS feed subscriptions to track my favorite blogs and websites. If you don’t already know it, RSS means Really Simple Syndication and as the expression aptly makes it clear, people can easily syndicate your content and consume it using various free and commercial RSS feed readers or republish it on their websites.
Niall Kennedy is a feed syndication geek (wow! I didn’t know there were syndication geeks too
) and he had posted this wonderful post titled Feed publishing best practices. He takes out the viscera of all the RSS terminologies and presents it to you in all its glory.

Are in-text ads bad for your content?
Nov 30, 2006 No Comments »
In-text ads are those small double-underlined words and phrases you often come across while reading some blogs and websites. When you hover your cursor over that text a balloon kind of a thing pops up and you see a fancy ad encapsulated in that balloon. According to this Wall Street Journal article this not good for ethical content and news writing and to a degree I agree with that. What if consciously or unconsciously you start writing to facilitate all those tiny keywords?

The revenge of a blogger
Nov 30, 2006 No Comments »
Although I wouldn’t advise you to click your assaulter while he or she is assaulting you (because you should be saving yourself at that moment), Jackie Danicki did exactly this. She clicked the photograph of her assaulter and published it on her blog. I got the link to Jackie’s post from this Blog Heral post. What a courageous woman she is! All my sympathies and admiration go to her and it’s sad she had to go through all this; and on top of that she is not even entitled to protect herself — she says on her blog that you’re not even allowed to carry a pepper spray with you. Well, this is silly.
I think this is a good way of bringing such menaces to the fore — by publishing their photos on your blogs and other social-media web pages and then disseminating the link as much as possible. This way even the somnolent and apathetic police force will be forced to take some action.

Beginner’s Guide to Digg
Nov 30, 2006 No Comments »

The PronetAdvertising Blog is gradually becoming one of my favorite blogs because one, there topics are so unique, and two, they are so relevant. Take for instance this article titled The Beginner’s Guide to Digg; it is so elaborate that you want to kick-start your Digg-based Internet marketing campaign right on! I haven’t thought much of Digg but the problem with me is that till now I haven’t thought much of many things and the consequences are hurtling down upon me like an avalanche. Like, online marketing — methodical, well-planned and scientific online marketing — has been no where on the map of my future schemes. This is the most essential part of your online existence. I’ve been doing this for my clients but have been lagging far behind when it comes to promoting my own business. But I’m gradually trying to put things back in order and you’ll soon observe some interesting changes :-).
