Why should you optimize your blog posts for search engines?
Aug 25, 2006 No Comments »
Simple. To get relevant traffic from search engines. When I talk of search engine optimization I don’t mean just focus on the search engine traffic and forget about your readers. For your blogging, that’ll be suicidal; your blogging is only as good as how many people regularly read your blog posts. By manipulatively optimizing your blog posts to attract traffic you can bring them to your blog easily, but you cannot make them stay or make them click on your link again.

Finally a blog camp in India
Aug 24, 2006 No Comments »
BlogCamp India 2006 is being organized in Chennai. It will take place between September 9-10, 2006. Dina’s blog has this text about the upcoming “unconference” of Indian bloggers:
Blogging is more than just a tool for online communication. For bloggers and blog readers, it represents a way of life where open communication, dialogue, feedback and collaboration enrich content, helping us forge professional and personal relationships. From encouraging government transparency, blogging about children, discussions on economics, sharing poetry and literature, ribtickling humour, online activism, movie reviews to Sunday musings, the tool has changed lives for all those who use it and rely on it for opinion, information, entertainment and business.
Because blogging has influenced each individual at so many different levels, the theme of the BlogCamp in Chennai is going to be “Living The Blog”
We hope to provide a forum where bloggers can share their stories and be inspired by innovative and successful blogging experiences. In the spirit of blogging and no barriers interaction, the two-day event will be in an “unconference mode”. Participants will have the choice of simultaneous workshops and sessions that will be held in small groups and use relatively informal ways of engaging each other, in conversations around the various themes.
In India we have an extremely vibrant blogging community and the collective power of the Indian blogsphere manifested itself during the recent blockage of blogs by the Indian government. Corporate and professional blogging is still a far-fetched idea as far as India is concerned. But then online content as such anyway doesn’t rate high in the priority list of Indian businesses.

Dan here has a nice list of optimization steps you can take while creating and posting your blog entries. Of late I’ve been trying to create my posts keeping SEO issues in mind. It’ll take some time for the results to show up. It’s just been my second week blogging actively on this blog.

Have your keywords in your URL link
Aug 24, 2006 No Comments »
A long time back they used to say a domain name containing your keywords fetched you higher rankings. I remember fetching domain names like freelance-copywriter.net etc., but soon the idea fazed away and I realized it hardly mattered. Now I’m sure I can even get gobbledegook.com (I just checked, it’s some website providing translation services) appear on the first page of Google for “content writer”.

Of course you can! I get at least 2-3 queries (well, I never said I get tons of traffic you see) asking me how one can establish a writing/copywriting career on the Internet. For a while now I’ve been contemplating writing a post on How to become a successful online copywriter but lack of time always pushes me back. Now that I’ve started blogging “actively” again on this blog, I’ll soon do a post on the subject.
