Does blogging make money?

I was just now reading Guy Kawasaki’s Observations of a Nouveau Blogger, and although he must have mentioned it in a light vein, this portion got me thinking:

It’s hard to make money blogging. The advertising revenues don’t add up to much, but there are other significant rewards like helping people change the world…

Well, I’ve been thinking of changing the world for a long time and one major change I’ve envisaged for myself is (as some wise one said: charity begins at home), make money.

There are few bloggers making a living, or even rent money, by blogging. Many more improve their livings because of blogging. The same, of course, can be said of people using telephones.

The art of successful blogging

The post on SEO Black Hat lists a plethora of factors that help you create a successful blog. The blog post is full of links, despite that, it’s an interesting read. Well, here is what I see as traits needed for successful blogging:

• Post frequently
• Quality definitely scores over quality
• Create posts that make people think
• Try to satisfy the immediate need of your visitors
• Optimize your blog posts
• Link people and encourage others to link back to you
• Communicate on other blogs by leaving constructive, relevant and useful comments
• Be communicative in the comments section of your own blog
• Use the appropriate pinging services
• Refer to other blog posts and links that you feel your visitors my find interesting/useful

I’ll go through the individual in the very near future.
